About the SCAN scheme

Welcome

In their 127 year history, Stockport County have had more senior players than any other English Premiership or Football League club (1285 players). To celebrate this fact, every player who has ever played a senior game for the Club has been issued with a unique SCAN. This represents the order in which they have made their senior first team debut and once issued will remain with the player forever.

To date players have qualified through the FA Cup Proper, the Football League, and the following competitions controlled by the Football League: the Division Three North Cup, the League Cup, and the Football League Trophy (formerly the Associate Members Cup).

The Scheme incorporates two elements:

  1. Each player will be presented with a specially commissioned certificate by a Stockport County supporter. The certificate will contain confirmation of the player's debut (date and opponent) and their unique SCAN. For authenticity this will be stamped with a wax seal. It is the intention to eventually issue framed certificates to all former players and the families of those now deceased.
  2. The Scheme's Guardians are currently in discussion with The Football Association and The Football League in order to gain permission to add this historic SCAN to the match worn shirts of all eligible players. This will be the first time in Britain that any senior Club will have done this. The Club will continue to add this number to shirts for all subsequent senior fixtures.

The Scheme will be launched at Edgeley Park on Saturday 16th October 2010 when a group of former players or descendents have been invited back as guests of Stockport County to attend the game versus Barnet. Immediately after the game an informal presentation evening will allow the current playing squad, former players and families to be presented with their certificates by the supporters.

The design of the commemorative certificate will remain unchanged throughout the lifetime of the scheme. The scheme is a fans initiative and will operate independently of the Football Club and will be self financing.

The scheme's launch has only been possible thanks to the financial and logistical support of the Stockport County Supporters Co-operative.

This web site has been set up to back-up the Stockport County Appearance Number scheme and will be updated shortly after each presentation is made.
